 Residents of a former dumpsite will not be traipsing on garbage anymore. McDonald’s Philippines Corporation turned over 21 houses to GK beneficiaries of Hapay Na Mangga, Taytay, Rizal last March 11, 2004. About 30 employees volunteered in entertaining the residents (with Ronald McDonald, Chief Happiness Officer) and painting other un-finished houses in the same area. They were witnesses, together with the residents of Hapay Na Mangga, as the company president/owner, George Yang, himself awarded the 21 beneficiaries with the keys to their new homes.
During the speech he made, Taytay municipal mayor, Jojo Zapanta, expressed his support for GK and his fervent wish that GK be available to other slum areas in his district. Mayor Zapanta is responsible for the development of the creek. Gawad Kalinga’s Antonio Meloto was a symbol of hope for the whole Hapay Na Mangga community as he promised the crowd that GK will ceaselessly pursue the goal of uplifting the life of all the residents and, in the process, make Hapay Na Mangga the most beautiful subdivision in Taytay.
