| Life
has never been as meaningful
as it is today for the Punzalans,
a Filipino family residing in
Port Arthur, Texas. A family
vacation in the year 2002 became
a house building activity and
since then, they have raised
funds to build 25 houses for
the GK Texas Village in Towerville,
Bulacan.
Philip and Linda Punzalan’s
daughter, Tricia, stumbled
across Gawad Kalinga’s
work in Bagong Silang, Caloocan
while searching in the internet.
Her enthusiasm encouraged
the whole family to be part
of the GK National Build,
from the laying of cement
to the painting of the house.
They even stayed another week
just to complete it, allowing
them to build friendships
with the families there.
The experience made them
passionate advocates of GK
in Texas. They organized a
garage sale that caught the
attention of their local paper.
The story also inspired friends
to be creative. A nurse even
worked overtime to donate
one house which started a
ripple effect among her co-workers!
Seeing the GK Texas Village
rising is indeed fulfilling.
As Linda puts it, “It’s
really a wonderful feeling
to know you could achieve
so much with just a little
effort. We started with a
small seed, and it sprouted
to become a big possibility.
